A Welcomed Step in the Seasonal Cycle Often the GladRags Newsletter begins with talk of the seasons and the weather outside our door. In that vein…spring is right around the corner! The equinox is on March 20th and from that point on there will be nothing but sunny days and flowers a-bloomin'. Ok, so that might not be how it's going to shake out, but we can hope… What will be growing in your life this spring? Perhaps some personal growth? Maybe you'll knock down that final blockade preventing you from trying out a new hobby, taking a much needed trip or affecting some necessary community change. Well, we hope so and, while we're hoping, we hope for world peace. Glad as always, |

It's International Women's Day on March 8th - a celebration of the advancements that women around the world have made throughout the years and a reminder to continue to strive for greater equality every day. There are some beautiful events that celebrate this day (a United Nations commemorated day) and the official website of the holiday, www.internationalwomensday.com, lists many happenings in your particular country, state and town. Diana attended some powerful festivities in the Zocolo (town center) of Mexico City in 2004 when she first discovered the holiday and she's considering a trip up to Port Angeles, Washington to celebrate this year with some wine at the woman-operated winery, Olympic Cellars Winery. Isn't it great to be a woman? We have our own holiday! |

We have long discussed an important international menstrual issue - lack of menstrual products for school girls in certain African communities. This issue prevents some girls from attending school during their menstrual period. Many aid organizations have donated disposable pads to help. A disposable pad company has even become involved in donating its products and constructing latrines equipped with incinerators to burn the disposables (ahem, burning trash releases carcinogens - some of us at the 'Rags thought that was common knowledge. Duh.). We have lamented the fact that many of these aid organizations don't appear to consider the donation of cloth pads. We consider the sustainable option preferable to the disposable one, not just in developed nations, but especially in communities that do not have the wealth to continue to purchase disposables or a system to dispose of them. Admirably, Deanna Duke has taken action with Goods 4 Girls. Goods 4 Girls organizes cloth pad donations to various aid efforts in certain areas of Africa and we want to help. We've put together a Goods 4 Girls Kit that you can send to Goods 4 Girls. The kit includes our day 3-pack and a Carry Bag. You pay for the three pack and shipping and GladRags donates the Carry Bag. We'll ship the whole shebang to Goods 4 Girls and they'll send the products off to various organizations - a great alternative to the disposable pad donations. Thank you for your donation! And thank you Deanna for your proactive work! |

I'm getting a bit weepy and nostalgic (this is Diana speaking). I'm off to other adventures after two exciting years of employment at the 'Rags. I've enjoyed chatting with all of you wonderful customers on the phone, via email, by writing these newletters, and through the blog. It's been good to know ya! My time at GladRags has been spectacular. I have worked with some amazing women (and men) and have helped many women switch to reusables. That makes me pretty darn Glad. Thank you and farewell! -Diana P.S. I'm gonna go out in style too - check out my GladRags bikini! |
