Well---I have a tried and true method for you to kick the Organic Consumer Culture---move to my town!! Seriously--if you want to get away from it all--unintentionally, move to a small, remote mountain town (or just visit) in Idaho, where this stuff is practically impossible to come by. Not only can people here not afford all that Organic Consumer stuff, you can't buy it here!! You just need to remove yourself from Consumer Haven i.e., anywhere but here, and you will find there is much more to life than shopping---whether you use cloth bags and buy organic or just do regular shopping. I LOVE Organic stuff---but being SO far removed makes it easier for me to say that it is just hypocrisy and being spoiled----it is just as wasteful to shop your heart out for Organic stuff as it is to shop at Wal Mart (which is 2 hours away from us :O ) Stuff IS stuff, Waste IS waste, Consumerism IS consumerism----whether organic or not................
