I am glad to see that White folks have become aware of the fact that the "White view" is not the "only view" or the even "right view." From the mainstream media you would never know this but people that would read this site strike me as a little "non mainstream"--if I can say that respectfully. A superb periodical is "American Legacy." It highlights Black American history and culture.

J. California Cooper is an excellent African American writer, usually of post slavery era topics (fiction). Octavia Butler, also African American, wrote great science fiction novels.

I applaud your willingness and commitment to expand your reading and enjoyment of art!

A really fun one is Bride & Prejudice, which is a take on the very white (but female) novel Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. That story has been done many times but this is the Baliwood version, meaning the over-the-top style of filmmaking characteristic of India. But it's really about blending styles and cultures. They filmed in India, England and L.A. and had actors from all places and used cinematic features of each. Check out the special features to see more about that. The director is an Indian woman.
